Why should I service my car?
Your vehicle is a complex piece of machinery and to maximise its efficiency and performance, it requires regular servicing.
This is a factor often overlooked and unappreciated, but the reality is: failure to service your vehicle will decrease its lifespan and value and increase the likelihood of breakdowns. In these instances, the cost of repair is often much greater than the cost of regular servicing. We are here to ensure that you only spend money when your vehicle really needs it.
We believe that owners should understand just how important this element of vehicle maintenance is and why servicing should always be carried out by multi-skilled, qualified Motor Engineers.
How often should you have your vehicle services?
This really depends on a variety of factors, such as the make, model and usage of the car; but as an absolute minimum, your vehicle should always be serviced at least every 12,000 miles or every 12 months between MOTs – whichever comes first.
Some cars feature a self-diagnostic system, which will advise when a car service is due. Drivers are advised not to ignore these warning signs, even if they occur before 12 months or 12,000 miles has been reached. If you drive an older vehicle, or tend to rack up a high annual mileage, you may require more regular servicing.
Caring for your car saves money
Having your car serviced every year and maintaining it between services is money well spent. Problems are likely to be caught early on when they’re cheaper to fix, and your car will have a better resale value and longer life.
A well-maintained car is also more efficient, which means you save money on fuel as well. Should you need to claim on a warranty, you’ll normally have to show your car has a complete service record.

  • Visually exhaust smoke (diesel engine only)

  • Horn
  • Carry out battery test
  • Battery condition & connections, top up if required
  • Top up windscreen washer reservoir with additive
  • Door/bonnet/lock operation lubricate where appropriate
  • Fuel cap seal condition and function
Internal & Vision Checks
  • Door's/bonnet & boot lock operation
  • Operation & condition of windscreen wipers & washers
  • Windscreen for cracks & chips
  • Rear view & wing mirror condition
  • Seat belts for rips, frays and mechanism function
Engine Checks
  • Replace engine oil & filter, sump plug washer
  • Check for any oil or coolant leaks
  • Advise on coolant level & antifreeze strength top up if required
  • Radiator, coolant hoses/condition/leaks including header tank
  • Condition & tension of auxiliary drive belts (not timing belt)
  • Check & clean HT leads & components (if fitted)
  • Timing belt replacement intervals & advise
  • Carry out engine management system scan
